THE HEART OF HOMESCHOOLING            by Lourdes Pinto

I.             Introduction

1.   reveal to you my heart as a homeschooling wife & mother, the journey our Lord has taken me on these past 16 years. 

 II.           Mission of Homeschooling

1.   Pray that God places deep in our hearts the mission of homeschooling. This is what will help us persevere amidst many difficulties and challenges.

2.   movie ST.FRANCIS OF ASSISI; St. F. was called to live a new and drastic way of life. A way of life that was completely counter culture.

a.   He was wealthy, young and handsome and God calls him to a life of poverty.

b.   Witness of the Gospel of love and life

c.   Rebuild the Church

 3.   Catholic HS is a new drastic way of life, completely counter culture in which God desires to rebuild the family, the domestic church.

4.   HS is a way of life that is helping families grow in holiness.

5.   GOOD NEWS ABOUT SEX AND MARRIAGE Christopher West.  Foreword by Archbishop Chaput, “…fundamental vocations crisis of all: marriage and family life. It’s no accident that most priests and religious emerge from believing, practicing, loving Catholic families.”

  III.          St. Francis Key Points

 1.   Way of Life

a.   educational choice, school at home

b.   a call to live in a new way. When we bring our children home we are accepting to live a new way of life

2.   persecuted

beatitudes “ Blessed are you when men hate you and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast our your name as evil, on account of the son of man! Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven…”

3.   Sacrifice and suffering

a.   lack of understanding when I started HS

b.   fiat, we are embracing the Cross, we are saying “yes” to a life of sacrificial love.

M. A. “If in our world, we have so many abortions today, it is because women have first closed their hearts to the sacrificial love necessary to be open to life.”

 c.   Holy Family

a.   M.A. “When Mary gives her fiat she is elevating women to the fullness of the feminine gift: her self-donation.” “Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord.”

b.   Jesus told Venerable Conchita, “You must be a reflection of Mary, spouse and mother. You must be an icon of her feminine heart and of her maternal heart to the world.”

d.   Greatest gift of HS

e.   Maybe I shouldn’t be talking about this…

f.     simplicity, detachment, patience, less selfish, tenderness

g.   TRUE DEVOTION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

“…secret means of leading souls to God is participation in the sacrifice of Jesus.”

 “Love without pain is truly insipid and imperfect.”

     h.   discovered MOTHERHOOD through this life of sacrificial love our Lord reveals to us the beauty of Motherhood.

1.   through Catholic HS we are emerged into our vocation, there is very little time for anything else. We can only grow in holiness within our vocation

 IV.PERSEVERANCE

 1.   Prayer, Eucharist, Blessed Sacrament, Fasting

 V.          What does this way of life look like? Rule of Life, rhythm, schedule
